Indian Institute of Science Education & Research (IISER), Berhampur

Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Berhampur (IISER Berhampur) is an autonomous public research and science education institute in Berhampur, Odisha, India. Established in 2016, it is one of the seven IISERs created by the Ministry of Human Resource Development and is recognized as an Institute of National Importance by the Government of India. It began functioning in the 2016–17 academic year, initially from a transit campus, with IISER Bhopal serving as mentor institute until a director was appointed. A permanent campus was constructed at Laudigam in Ganjam district, formally dedicated in February 2024, featuring a monolithic academic block designed to withstand cyclonic winds and house all science disciplines together. The institute offers BS-MS dual-degree, PhD, and Integrated PhD programs in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Earth Sciences, with minors in Data Sciences, Bioengineering, and Engineering Physics. Admissions are coordinated through the Joint Admission Programme, primarily via the IISER Aptitude Test. The institute has advanced laboratories including NMR spectrometers, electron microscopes, mass spectrometry systems, and other scientific instrumentation supporting interdisciplinary research. The campus also includes sports facilities such as an athletic track, basketball courts, and tennis courts.
