Kurnool Degree College,
Kurnool Medical College, established in 1956, is one of the oldest medical schools in India, located in Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh. It was formed after the government of Andhra decided to start a medical college in the Rayalaseema region, and orders were passed in November 1955 to establish it at Kurnool. The college opened on 21 July 1956, admitting fifty students to the M.B.B.S. course, with Dr. C. Venkata Ramaiah as its first Principal. It was first affiliated to Sri Venkateswara University from January 1957, and permanently from January 1959. Over the years, the college expanded with laboratories, hostels, an Assembly-cum-library hall, a clinical research block, and a rural health center at Parla village. It offers numerous postgraduate degree and diploma courses across medical specialties, and has been inspected for superspeciality courses. The college celebrated its Golden Jubilee in 2006-07, inviting President Dr. Abdul Kalam, and its Diamond Jubilee in 2016. In 2020, the Andhra government allocated Rs 720 Crores for modernization of the associated Kurnool Government General Hospital.
