Surendranath Evening College

Surendranath Evening College traces its origins to Surendranath College (originally Ripon College), founded in 1882 by nationalist leader Surendranath Banerjee in Kolkata. In 1947, the trustees of Surendranath College opened an evening science section to expand access to education. In 1960, this evening section, along with the women's section, was separated from the main college and became independent degree colleges. The evening section became known as Surendranath Evening College, while the women's section became Surendranath College for Women. Surendranath College itself was originally named Ripon College after the British Viceroy Lord Ripon, but was renamed in 1948–1949 in honor of its founder. The broader institution offered undergraduate and postgraduate courses in arts, commerce, and science, and had a Law Department that later became a separate institution, Ripon Law College, in 1911. Surendranath Evening College is listed among related institutions such as Surendranath Law College and Surendranath College for Women in the 'See also' section of the Wikipedia article.
