National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology, (NIELIT) Srinagar

NIELIT Srinagar is a center of the National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT), formerly known as the DOEACC Society, which offers Information Technology and Electronics training at various levels. NIELIT is an autonomous scientific society under the administrative control of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India, with its headquarters in New Delhi and a network of over 56 centers across the country grouped into five regional zones. The Srinagar center traces its origins to a Centre for Electronic Design and Technology (CEDT), part of a network of such centers established following the model first set up at the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, in 1974 to bridge the gap between academia and industry in electronics design training. In December 2002, the CEDT center in Srinagar/Jammu, along with several other autonomous societies and centers under the Department of Information Technology, was merged into the DOEACC Society. When the DOEACC Society was officially renamed NIELIT on 10 October 2011, the Srinagar center became part of this renamed institution. NIELIT centers, including Srinagar, offer formal and non-formal courses such as the O, A, B, and C level courses, and serve as examination and accreditation bodies for IT and electronics education.
