Islamic University of Science & Technology (IUST) is a state university situated in Awantipora, Jammu and Kashmir, India, established through an act passed by the Jammu and Kashmir State Legislative Assembly in November 2005. It serves as a centre for higher learning for the people of Jammu and Kashmir and neighbouring regions, located about 25 km from Srinagar. The university is recognised by the UGC and AICTE and is a member of AIU. Its chancellor is currently the Lieutenant Governor of the Union Territory, a role assumed after Jammu and Kashmir became a UT in 2019. The university comprises several schools of study: School of Technology, School of Business Studies, School of Humanities and Social Sciences, and the more recently instituted School of Sciences, offering various undergraduate and postgraduate programs. It also houses centres such as the Ibn-Khaldun Centre for Comparative Civilization and the Centre for International Peace and Conflict Studies. The university's central library, known as the Rumi Library, was established in 2005 and holds about 50,000 books, subscribes to numerous journals and newspapers, and offers a Book Bank facility. In January 2025, IUST became the first state university in Kashmir to receive a license to establish a community radio station on its campus.
