NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF FOOD TECHNOLOGY ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND MANAGEMENT
NIFTEM-K is a higher education institute under the Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MOFPI), located in the Kundli industrial area of Sonipat, Haryana, India. First announced in the 2006–07 budget speech by Finance Minister P. Chidambaram, it was inaugurated in 2012 by Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar, with an original investment of ₹500 crore on 100 acres of land. The institute began with B.Tech. programmes, later adding M.Tech. (2012–13) and Ph.D. (2013–14) courses. Its first convocation was held in February 2018, attended by President Ram Nath Kovind. In 2018, four incubation centres and a food-testing laboratory were inaugurated with a ₹50 crore investment. In 2021, following passage of the National Institutes of Food Technology Entrepreneurship and Management Bill, 2019, NIFTEM-K was granted Institute of National Importance status. The institute offers B.Tech., BBA (Hons), M.Tech., M.Sc., MBA, EMBA, integrated B.Tech+MBA, and Ph.D. programmes across five academic departments: Food Science and Technology, Food Engineering, Agriculture and Environmental Science, Interdisciplinary Sciences, and Food Business Management and Entrepreneurship Development. It was ranked 127 in the NIRF 2022 engineering rankings and conducts research through incubation centres and nutrition studies.
