Northern India Institute of Fashion Technology (NIIFT)

Northern India Institute of Fashion Technology (NIIFT) is a fashion institute based in Mohali, Punjab, with additional branches in Jalandhar and Ludhiana. It was established in 1995. NIIFT runs regular full-time academic programs at the Graduate and Post Graduate levels, and has also recently launched a PhD program. Its undergraduate offerings include a three-year diploma in Fashion Design, available at Mohali, Ludhiana, and Jalandhar, which focuses on design development, fashion presentation, market knowledge, and trend forecasting; final-year students showcase their collections at the annual fashion show, Anukama. Another undergraduate program is the three-year Textile Design diploma, specializing in textiles, prints, fabric development, weaves, and surface embellishments, culminating in the SUVAYAN exhibition. Postgraduate diploma programs include Knitwear Design and Garment Manufacturing Technology (the latter available in Mohali), as well as Fashion Retail Management. In 2010, Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal approved the merger of NIIFT, Mohali, and its Ludhiana and Jalandhar centers with the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Delhi, with Rs. 48 crores sanctioned to NIFT over three years.
