Academy of Maritime Education and Training (AMET) is a private deemed university located in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India, dedicated to maritime education and training. Founded in 1993, it was one of the first technology-oriented institutes of higher education in India focused on maritime studies. In its early years, AMET collaborated with international maritime colleges such as South Tyneside College, Hull College, and Glasgow College of Nautical Sciences, and it initially operated as an off-campus institution of Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra. In 2007, AMET was granted university status by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, and the Department of Naval Architecture was established the same year. AMET maintains collaborations with several universities and academies in India and abroad, including the University of Glasgow, University of Strathclyde, University of Plymouth, IIT Madras, DNV Academy India, and the World Maritime University. The institution has received several awards, including 'Emerging Maritime University of the Year' in 2013 and 'Best Maritime Institute' in 2013. It was ranked 3rd worldwide by the International Association of Maritime Universities in 2019–20. The campus features a model ship called the Jewel of AMET and a Polaris bridge simulator for training students in nautical science.
