Dr. B.R.Ambedkar College

Dr. B.R. Ambedkar College was established in 1973 in Betai, a then-backward border village in Nadia district, West Bengal, India. The area was largely inhabited by SC, ST, Backward Class, and poor minority communities, many of whom were rootless refugees from East Pakistan who settled there after the 1947 Partition and the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War. These residents, eager to educate their children, helped establish the college with the assistance of local educationist Haran Chandra Biswas. A building named Haran Chandra Smriti Bhawan was later built in his memory. The college offers undergraduate courses in arts and commerce and is affiliated with the University of Kalyani. Its departments include Bengali, English, Education, History, Geography, Political Science, Philosophy, Economics, Sanskrit, Physical Education, Commerce, and Mathematics. The institution is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC). The college's official website is brambedkarcollegebetai.in, and it maintains links to the University of Kalyani, the UGC, and the National Assessment and Accreditation Council.
