NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF FASHION TECHNOLOGY, MUMBAI

National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) is an autonomous institute established in 1986 under the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, with its head office in New Delhi. In 2006 it was declared a statutory institute under the NIFT Act, empowering it to grant its own degrees. NIFT now operates 19 campuses across India, including one in Navi Mumbai (in the Raigad district of Maharashtra), which was set up in 1995 along with campuses in Chennai, Kolkata, Gandhinagar, and Hyderabad. The institute offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programmes in design, fashion technology, and management, such as Bachelor in Design, Bachelor in Fashion Technology, Master's in Design, Master's in Fashion Technology, Master's in Fashion Management, and PhD programmes. Campuses feature specialized labs like computer labs, sewing machine labs, pattern making and draping labs, weaving labs, dyeing and printing labs, and garment technology labs, along with student facilities including libraries, hostels, health care, and sports centers. NIFT has also collaborated with the Ministry of Textiles on projects like creating an India-specific size chart and designing the Indian Army's digital disruptive pattern camouflage uniform introduced in 2022.
