MANIPUR TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY

Manipur University, known in Meitei as Manipur Taibang Maheikol, is a public central university situated at Canchipur on the southern edge of Imphal, the capital of Manipur, India. Founded on 5 June 1980 under the Manipur University Act, it initially functioned as a state-run teaching-cum-affiliating university. The Manipur University Act of 2005 converted it into a centrally administered institution, effective 13 October 2005, funded by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (now Ministry of Education). The university operates nine schools of studies covering forty-seven academic departments, ranging from Education and Humanities to Engineering and Management Studies. It serves as the affiliating authority for 119 colleges across Manipur, including three medical colleges, and has one constituent college, the Manipur Institute of Technology. Recognised by the University Grants Commission, it was re-accredited by NAAC with a 'B+' grade in 2023. The campus, built on the historic site of the Langthabal Konung palace, spans about 287.53 acres and includes administrative buildings, a central library, hostels, and other facilities. In March 2018, the university hosted the 105th Indian Science Congress, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
