Prafulla Chandra College
Acharya Prafulla Chandra College, originally established in 1960 as New Barrackpore College under a joint State and Central Government dispersal scheme, is located in North 24 Parganas, West Bengal. Its founder secretary was Late Haripada Biswas. The college was later renamed after Prafulla Chandra Ray, the Bengali chemist regarded as the father of Indian chemistry. It arose from the educational needs of refugee communities formed after India's partition, beginning modestly in rented rooms of New Barrackpore Colony Boys' High School. Today, it offers 27 undergraduate and 8 postgraduate courses in Science and Arts, and is affiliated with West Bengal State University. The college has been awarded Grade "A" by the NAAC and is recognized by UGC. It is situated on Sodepur Road, near New Barrackpore and Madhyamgram railway stations, with bus connectivity to Jessore Road and B. T. Road. In 2018, it received a Rs. 2 crore grant under the RUSA-2.0 project. Notable alumni include screenplay writer and filmmaker Sayantan Ghosal and actor Rubel Das.
