Amrita School of Engineering, Coimbatore is located in Ettimadai, roughly 20 km from Coimbatore city, and is one of the constituent engineering schools of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham University. Founded in 1994 by Mata Amritanandamayi Devi, it was the first higher-education institution established by the Mata Amritanandamayi Math, initially with just 120 students and 13 faculty members. In 2003, the parent institution became a Deemed University. The Coimbatore campus, Amrita's first, houses the administrative headquarters of Amrita University. Being the headquarters campus, it has the largest annual student intake and offers the most programmes among the university's five engineering schools. It is also the only campus with Aerospace and Chemical Engineering departments, in addition to Civil, Computer Science, Electrical & Electronics, Electronics & Communication, and Mechanical Engineering departments. Academic programmes include undergraduate, postgraduate, integrated, and doctoral degrees, approved by AICTE and accredited by NAAC and NBA. Admission to B.Tech programmes is through the Amrita Engineering Entrance Examination (AEEE) and JEE Mains, with 60% of seats reserved for AEEE candidates. M.Tech admission is based on GATE scores and personal interviews. In 2023, Amrita School of Engineering was ranked 19th among engineering institutions in India by the National Institutional Ranking Framework.
