National Institute of Design Haryana

National Institute of Design, Haryana is an Institute of National Importance under the National Institute of Design Act, 2014, and the NID (Amendment) Act 2019. It was established on 15 November 2016 as an autonomous institute under the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India, following the 2007 National Design Policy's proposal for four additional NIDs. It was the third such institute established. Dr. Vanita Ahuja was appointed as its first full-time Director in January 2019. Classes initially began at a transit campus in Government Polytechnic, Umri, Kurukshetra, before shifting in January 2022 to a new 20-acre campus shaped like an endless knot along the Grand Trunk Road in Kurukshetra. The institute offers a four-year Bachelor of Design (B.Des.) programme with specialisations in Industrial Design, Communication Design, and Textile & Apparel Design, beginning with a two-semester Foundation Program. Admission is through the national NID-DAT entrance test, with an annual intake of 75 Indian and 11 overseas seats.
