Institute of Seismological Research
The Institute of Seismological Research (ISR) is an earthquake engineering and research center in Gandhinagar, India. It was established in 2003 by the Department of Science and Technology of the Government of Gujarat in the aftermath of the 2001 Gujarat earthquake. Dr. J. G. Negi formulated the framework for ISR and set up the centre with funding from the Asian Development Bank, but he resigned in 2004 due to differences with the state government. Prof. Naveenchandra N. Srivastava was then deputed by the Gujarat government to lead the institute, and formal research activities began in 2006. ISR functions as the nodal agency in the western state of Gujarat responsible for deploying and maintaining a sub-network of 22 broadband seismograph stations and 40 strong-motion accelerographs. This sub-network forms part of the larger Indian National Strong-Motion Instrumentation Network, which is operated by the Department of Earthquake Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee.
