DARBHANGA MEDICAL COLLEGE & HOSPITAL, DARBHANGA
Darbhanga Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) is a government medical college with multiple healthcare facilities, situated in Darbhanga, Bihar. It was established in 1925 following a visit by the Prince of Wales, later King Edward VIII, who was impressed by a medical school in Patna known as the 'Temple of Medical Learning'. Maharaja Rameshwar Singh of the Khandavala Dynasty arranged for this institution to be relocated to Darbhanga, donating 300 acres of land and Rs 6 lakh for its establishment. His son, Kameshwar Singh, later renamed it Darbhanga Medical College in 1946. The college offers courses such as Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery, and BSc Nursing, with admissions based on NEET examination scores, regulated by the National Medical Commission. It is currently affiliated with Bihar University of Health Sciences and was once considered by the Government of India as a site for an AIIMS. The attached hospital provides major healthcare services, serving as the only public healthcare institution in Darbhanga, benefiting people from Madhubani, Saharsa, Supaul, Samastipur, and other nearby districts. It is ranked 3rd in Bihar and 94th in India according to the IIRF 2023 ranking.
