Indraprastha College for Women

Indraprastha College for Women, also called IP College, originated from the Indraprastha Girls School founded in 1904 by Delhi theosophists at the call of Annie Besant. An intermediate school was added in 1924, giving rise to Indraprastha College for Women, with Leonora Gmeiner as its first principal. The University of Delhi, founded in 1922, recognised it as a constituent college, and degree courses were introduced in the 1930s, with the university listing it as a degree college in 1938. The college moved several times, eventually settling at Alipur House on Sham Nath Road near Kashmiri Gate, a building now recognised as heritage property. It offers undergraduate and graduate courses in subjects including Economics, English, History, Mathematics, Psychology, Commerce, Computer Science, and Multimedia and Mass Communication. Campus facilities include a library, auditorium, ICT centre, computer labs, hostels, and sports facilities such as a gymnasium, swimming pool, and courts for various games. The college hosts annual events like Shruti, Vivaad, and Kirdaar, and has numerous clubs and societies. Notable alumni include Meira Kumar, Ambika Soni, and Aruna Roy.
