Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana
Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) is a public funded agricultural university located in Ludhiana, Punjab, India. Established in 1962 under the Haryana and Punjab Agricultural Universities Act 1970, it is the nation's third-oldest agricultural university, after institutions in Pantnagar and Bhubaneshwar. It was formally inaugurated by Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru on 8 July 1962 and played a pioneering role in India's Green Revolution. In 2005, PAU was bifurcated with the formation of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU). Since 1967, PAU has organized the Farmers Fair biannually, attracting at least one lakh farmers over two days from Punjab and neighboring states. In 2024, the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) ranked PAU 3rd in agriculture and allied sectors. The university has jurisdiction over the entire state of Punjab and comprises six constituent colleges, including the College of Agriculture, College of Agricultural Engineering & Technology, and College of Horticulture and Forestry, along with 18 Krishi Vigyan Kendras across various districts. The campus features the Punjab Agricultural University Stadium, which has hosted Ranji Trophy and Irani Trophy matches.
