CENTRE FOR HUMAN GENETICS

The Centre for Human Genetics (CHG) is a human genetics research centre of the Nuffield Department of Medicine at the Medical Sciences Division at the University of Oxford in England. It is funded by the Wellcome Trust among others. The centre is located at the Henry Wellcome Building of Genomic Medicine, which cost £20 million and was officially opened in June 2000 with Anthony Monaco as the director. Within the CHG, several core facilities provide services to researchers: the Oxford Genomics Centre, which offers high throughput sequencing and array platforms for genotyping, gene expression, and methylation; the Research Computing Core, which provides access to computing resources including thousands of processing cores and petabytes of storage; the Transgenics Core, which provides genetically modified mice and cell lines; and the Cellular Imaging Core, which offers advanced microscopy techniques such as fluorescence and single particle tracking imaging. In terms of research, the CHG has played a role in major international statistical and population genetics projects, including the Wellcome Trust Case Control Consortia (WTCCC, WTCCC2), the 1000 Genomes Project, and the International HapMap Project.
