Indira Kala Sangit Vishwavidyalaya, Khairagarh

Indira Kala Sangit Vishwavidyalaya (IKSV), also known as Indira Kala Sangeet University, is a public university situated in Khairagarh, Rajnandgaon district, Chhattisgarh, India. It was established in 1956 when Maharaja Birendra Bahadur Singh and Maharani Padmavati Devi, rulers of the princely state of Khairagarh, donated their palace to create a university focused on music, dance and visual arts. The university was named after their daughter Indira Devi, who died young but had been accomplished in music. It is claimed to be Asia's first musical university. Initially administered under the Government of Madhya Pradesh, it came under the Government of Chhattisgarh after the state's creation in 2001. The university houses a large library with over 40,000 books, audiotapes, CDs and video slides of Indian masters of painting, along with a mini musical-instrument gallery and a mini archaeological museum. It offers hostel facilities for male and female students, including overseas students, with instruction in English for foreign students. Academic offerings include BPA, BFA, BVoc, postgraduate, diploma and certificate courses, and it is organized into 21 departments across five sections: music, dance, visual arts, folk music and arts.
