IISER Mohali is an autonomous public research institute located in Knowledge City, Sector 81, S.A.S. Nagar, Mohali, Punjab, India. Established in 2007 by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, it is one of seven Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research created to advance frontier scientific research and provide integrated science education. The institute was approved by the Planning Commission in 2006, with its foundation stone laid by then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. It initially operated from a transit campus in Chandigarh before completing its move to the permanent Knowledge City campus by 2013. IISER Mohali offers Integrated B.S.-M.S., Integrated Ph.D., and Ph.D. programs, with undergraduate admissions conducted through the IISER Aptitude Test. The institute comprises six departments: Physical Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Mathematical Sciences, Biological Science, Earth Science, and Humanities and Social Sciences. It was ranked 70th overall in India by the NIRF in 2025. Student life includes annual National Science Day celebrations, a Student Representative Council, an Opportunity Cell for research and career guidance, the cultural festival Insomnia, participation in Inter-IISER cultural and sports meets, and a student magazine called Manthan.
