Regional Institute of Medical Sciences

The Regional Institute of Medical Sciences, Imphal (RIMS) was established on 14 September 1972 as the Regional Medical College, later renamed North Eastern Regional Medical College, and finally RIMS in 1995. Located at Lamphelpat, a suburb of Imphal city in Manipur, India, it occupies a 192-acre campus. The institute began as a joint venture of the North Eastern States, incorporating a 300-bed General Hospital inaugurated in 1968. It is managed by the North Eastern Regional Medical College Society, registered under the Manipur Societies Registration Act, 1989, and funded by the Government of India through the North Eastern Council. RIMS is affiliated with Manipur University and meets the standards of the National Medical Commission. The institute operates a 1,074-bed teaching hospital with 18 clinical departments, a casualty and emergency ward, and a blood bank. It offers 125 undergraduate seats, 146 postgraduate degree seats, and 2 postgraduate diploma seats. The hospital serves over 2.4 lakh outpatients and admits more than 31,000 patients annually, supported by facilities such as MEDLINE access, a Tele-medicine Centre, and an Advanced Hospital Information and Management System.
