Jagannath College

Jagannath College was a privately funded educational institution located in Dhaka, established through the patronage of Kisorilal Roy Chowdhury, the Zamindar of Baliati in Saturia, Manikganj, who named it after his father, Jagannath Saha. When the University of Dhaka was created in 1921 by merging two existing institutions—the government-run Dhaka College and the privately funded Jagannath College—the Jagannath College Act of 1920 (Act No XVI of 1920) renamed the college as Jagannath Intermediate College. As part of this merger, 303 second- and third-year students, along with many teachers and equipment such as library books, were transferred to the new University of Dhaka. In recognition of this contribution, one of the university's original residence halls was named Jagannath Hall, while another was named Dhaka Hall after Dhaka College. The text does not provide further details about Jagannath College's founding date, curriculum, or subsequent institutional history beyond its role in the creation of the University of Dhaka.
