Translational Health Science and Technology Institute (THSTI) is a society registered under the Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860 and functions as an autonomous institute of the Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India. It was established in 2009 at Gurgaon and is now situated in the NCR Biotech Science Cluster, Faridabad, alongside the Regional Center for Biotechnology, Advanced Technology Platforms Center, Small Animal Facility, and Bio-incubator. The institute was envisioned by former DBT secretary M. K. Bhan to speed the transition of laboratory research into market-ready products. Pramod Garg serves as the executive director. THSTI comprises six intramural centers: Vaccine & Infectious Disease Research Centre (VIDRC), Pediatric Biology Centre, Centre for Bio-design & Diagnostics, Centre for Human Microbial Ecology, Policy Centre for Biomedical Research, and Drug Discovery Research Centre. VIDRC works on technologies for prophylaxis, treatment, and diagnosis of infections such as JEV, DENV, HIV, Rotavirus, tuberculosis, and HEV, including an HIV Vaccine Translational Research laboratory established in 2009 with the International AIDS Vaccine Initiative. THSTI also runs the Population Science Partnership Centre with CHRD-SAS and an extramural center, the Clinical Development Services Agency, to support affordable healthcare product development.
