Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS) is a medical institute established under the State Legislature Act in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, located 14 km south of Hazratganj on Raebareli Road. Founded in 1983 and named after Sanjay Gandhi, the institute sits on a 649.72-acre residential campus. It offers degrees recognised by the National Medical Commission, including DM, MCh, MD, and Ph.D. programs, along with postdoctoral fellowships, certificate courses, and senior resident training. The College of Medical Technology under SGPGIMS provides B.Sc. nursing and BSc/MSc paramedical technology courses. The institute is autonomous, a member of the Association of Indian Universities, and recognised by the College Grants Commission. It employs over 250 faculty members across 32 departments, each handling teaching, training, patient care, and research. The Director is Professor R.K. Dhiman, and the Dean is Professor S.P. Ambesh. In 1997, SGPGI was among the first government hospitals in India to adopt an Oracle-based HIS system, which was updated in 2019 to integrate with PAX and telemedicine networks. The UP state government-owned SGPGI hospital is located about 1 km from the institute. The National Institutional Ranking Framework ranked the institute 5th in its 2025 medical ranking.
