Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology, Bhopal

Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology Bhopal (MANIT), also known as NIT Bhopal, is a public technical university located in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, India. Named after Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, it was established in 1960 as Maulana Azad College of Technology (MACT), one of the first Regional Engineering Colleges set up in India's Western Region alongside institutions in Nagpur and Surat. It began operations at Govt S.V. Polytechnic before moving to its own campus in 1964. Over the decades, it added undergraduate programs in Electronics and Communications Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Information Technology, and later an MBA program. In 2002, MACT was upgraded to a National Institute of Technology and granted deemed university status, followed by recognition as an Institute of National Importance under the NIT Act in 2007. The institute is fully funded by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, and governed by the NIT Council. Spread over 650 acres, MANIT is one of the largest NITs in India by campus area, featuring academic buildings, hostels, staff residences, sports facilities, an auditorium, and an artificial lake known as Lotus Lake.
