National Institute of Technology, Agartala

National Institute of Technology Agartala, originally founded in 1965 as Tripura Engineering College with civil, electrical, and mechanical engineering branches, was initially affiliated with Calcutta University, sharing curriculum and examination systems with Bengal Engineering College. After Tripura University's establishment in 1987, the institute became affiliated with it. Computer science and engineering courses began in 1999–2000, with electrical & electronics, production, and transportation engineering added in 2005–06. On 23 February 2006, the Union Cabinet approved converting the college into a National Institute of Technology. The campus, located about 24 km from Agartala and 4 km from NH-44, spans 365.6 acres and became residential from 2007–2008, with seats increasing from 250 to 420. Facilities include a large automated library (Knowledge Centre), an extensive sports complex, a 24x7 health center, banking services, and a post office. The institute offers B.Tech. programs in nine engineering disciplines, M.Tech. programs in several fields, and dual-degree courses in engineering physics and computational mathematics, alongside departments in chemistry, mathematics, physics, and management/humanities.
