College of Agriculture,Raichur

College of Agriculture, Raichur is located within the Raichur campus, which has a long history in agricultural research and education. Raichur's agricultural research origins trace back to 1932, when an Agricultural Research Station was established by the Nizam's Government of Hyderabad to study dry land farming. After the reorganization of Indian states, Raichur became the main research station for oilseeds, and with the founding of a State Agricultural University in Karnataka in 1964, it was elevated to a Regional Research Station covering five districts of Northern Karnataka. The College of Agriculture itself began functioning in 1984 with an intake capacity of 30 students. When the University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad was established in 1986, Raichur became a component campus under it, continuing as its second largest campus. Post-graduate degree programs started in 1995 across eight departments, expanding to 13 departments offering PG programs by 2009-10. The campus also hosts a Krishi Vigyana Kendra, established in 1994, which received the best Krishi Vigyan Kendra National Award for 2007-08. Eventually, the University of Agricultural Sciences, Raichur was established in 2009 by the Government of Karnataka.
