Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology, Amethi

Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology (RGIPT) is located in Jais, Amethi district, Uttar Pradesh, India, and was formerly based in Raebareli. It is an Institute of National Importance with a governance structure similar to the IITs, and admits undergraduate students based on JEE Advanced ranks. The Union Cabinet approved its establishment on 4 July 2007, and the RGIPT Bill 2007 was passed by both houses of Parliament that year. Academic sessions began in 2008–2009 at a temporary campus in Rae Bareli, with the first BTech batch graduating in 2012. In 2016, the institute moved to its permanent 47-acre campus at Jais, inaugurated by Union ministers Smriti Irani, Dharmendra Pradhan, and Prakash Javadekar. RGIPT also operates a campus in Sivasagar, Assam, which began academic sessions in 2017, and a campus in Bengaluru, Karnataka, which started MTech programs in 2018. The Jais campus offers BTech, MTech, MBA, and PhD programs across departments including Chemical and Biochemical Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Management Studies, Mathematical Sciences, Petroleum Engineering and Geoengineering, and Science and Humanities.
