Lakshmibai National Institute of Physical Education, Gwalior

Lakshmibai National Institute of Physical Education (LNIPE), formerly Lakshmibai National University of Physical Education, is a higher education institute in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, India, functioning as a deemed-to-be-university under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. Its campus lies on the Agra–Mumbai Highway, about 500m from Gwalior railway station, on 153 acres of land housing a faculty block, auditorium, research block, laboratories and administration building. The institute began in 1957 as Lakshmibai College of Physical Education, affiliated to Vikram University, later moving to Jiwaji University in 1964. It was renamed Lakshmibai National College of Physical Education in 1973, became autonomous in 1982, and was renamed Lakshmibai National Institute of Physical Education in 1995. In 2000 it was declared a deemed university and renamed Lakshmibai National University of Physical Education, before reverting to its current name in 2017 following a UGC order. The institute comprises departments such as Physical Education Pedagogy, Exercise Physiology, Sports Psychology, Sports Biomechanics, Health Sciences and Fitness, plus centres for Sports Coaching and Management and Advanced Studies, along with subsidiary centres like the Academic Staff College. It is approved by the UGC and accredited by NAAC, and publishes the Indian Journal of Physical Education, Sports Medicine and Exercise Science, along with other newsletters. Notable alumni include Ajeet Singh Yadav, Ajmer Singh, Prabhakar Vaidya, Shaji Prabhakaran, Gaurav Khanna, and K. P. Thomas.
