Al-Ameen College of Pharmacy

Al-Ameen College of Pharmacy is one of several institutions operated under the Al-Ameen Educational Society, based in Bangalore. The society itself was founded in 1966 by Mumtaz Ahmed Khan, who at the age of 31 started what became known as the Al-Ameen Movement to address educational needs in the city, particularly for the minority Muslim community. The society was supported by a number of social workers who helped establish around 20 branches and roughly 200 institutions throughout India. Abbasiya Begum, a member of the Karnataka Legislative Council, served as the first chairperson of the society. Among the many institutions founded under the Al-Ameen Educational Society umbrella are Al-Ameen College of Pharmacy, Al-Ameen College of Law, Al-Ameen Arts, Science and Commerce Degree College, Al-Ameen College of Education, Al-Ameen Institute of Management Studies, Al-Ameen Institute of Information Sciences, Al-Ameen Pre University College, and Al-Ameen Primary & High School. The society has also engaged in community activities, such as awarding the Al-Ameen All India Community Leadership Award, given in 2006 to Planning Commission of India member Syeda Saiyidain Hameed.
