COLLEGE OF AGRICULTURE, DHARWAD

College of Agriculture, Dharwad was established on 22 May 1947 at Hebballi Farm, Dharwad, under the Bombay Province, initiated by then Minister for Agriculture, Sri Mallanagoudaru Patil. It was initially affiliated with the University of Bombay before being transferred to Karnataka University, Dharwad, in 1950. Its main building was inaugurated on 9 September 1951 by Maharaja Jayachamarajendra Wadiyar of Mysore, and the college became known for its work in dryland agriculture and cotton breeding, also introducing postgraduate programs that year. In 1965, following the Model Land-Grant University system proposed by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, the college became a constituent college of the newly established University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore (UASB). Over the next two decades, it expanded with related institutions such as the College of Home Science (1974), a B.Sc. (Agri.) program in Agricultural Marketing and Cooperation (1976), and a Forestry department (1985). In 1986, the Government of Karnataka bifurcated UAS Bangalore to create the University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad, with College of Agriculture, Dharwad continuing as one of its constituent colleges.
