LADY DOAK COLLEGE
Lady Doak College (LDC) is the first women's college in Madurai, in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It was founded in 1948 by Katie Wilcox, an American missionary, near Tallakulam in Madurai, and is named after Helen Doak, the associate founder. The college started with only 86 students and today has around 3200 students. Its motto, 'Semper pro Veritate,' is Latin for 'Always for the truth.' The college celebrated its 75th anniversary on 14 July 2023, releasing a commemorative souvenir titled 'LDC serving generations,' overseen by John Devadason, chairman of the Katie Wilcox Education Association (KWEA), with the first copy received by Ms. V.G. Bhooma. It also published 'QR Coding of Trees at Lady Doak College,' written by Dr. Joy Marjorie Annal D, an assistant professor in the Department of Botany. The college is located on Lady Doak College Road near Narimedu and Bibikulam, areas well-connected by road transport. In 2022, it was ranked 86th among colleges in India by the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF). Since its founding, the college has had a succession of principals, from Dr. Marian Oommen (1948–1950) to the current principal, Dr. Beulah Jeyashree, who took office in May 2024.
