Rani Durgavati Vishwavidyalaya, Jabalpur

Rani Durgavati Vishwavidyalaya, also known as University of Jabalpur, is a government university in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, India. It was constituted and established on 12 June 1956 under the Jabalpur University Act, 1956, with territorial jurisdiction over the Jabalpur revenue district. The university shifted to its present location at Saraswati Vihar, Pachpedi, Jabalpur, in 1961. It was renamed Rani Durgavati Vishwavidyalaya on 7 June 1983 to honour the valorous Gond Queen of Garha Mandla, and was reconstituted under the M. P. Vishwavidyalaya Adhiniyam, 1973, with jurisdiction extended over Jabalpur, Mandla, Narsinghpur, Katni, and Dindori districts. The campus spans 99.63 acres and includes an Administrative Block, Art Faculty building, departments of Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Bio-Science, System Science, and Physical Education, a Central Library, Computer Center, University Institute of Management, Law Department, hostels, health center, guest house, and other facilities. Notable faculty include philosopher Rajneesh (Osho) and Sanskrit scholar Rahas Bihari Dwivedi. Kunji Lal Dubey was the university's first vice-chancellor. Affiliated institutes include Government Science College, Jabalpur, and Lakshmi Narain College of Technology.
