Silver Jubilee Degree College (Autonomous)
Silver Jubilee Government College, located in B-Camp, Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh, was established in 1972 by the government of Andhra Pradesh to mark the Silver Jubilee of India's independence. Conceived by Chief Minister P.V. Narasimha Rao and Director of Education M. V. Rajagopal, the college aimed to foster regional reconciliation by admitting students from coastal Andhra, Telangana, and Rayalaseema in a 42:36:22 ratio through a statewide entrance test, with free boarding, lodging, and coaching. The University Grants Commission granted it autonomy in 2005, and NAAC awarded it an 'A' grade. The college offers undergraduate programs in science, commerce, and arts, including vocational courses like Industrial Chemistry, Microbiology, and Computer Science, as well as postgraduate courses in English, Telugu, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Economics. In 2015, it became part of a cluster university with two other colleges. The college has ranked in India's NIRF rankings in various years, reaching as high as 35th nationally in 2018. In 2022, plans were announced for a new 50-acre campus due to the deteriorating condition of the existing buildings. The college also supports co-curricular activities such as NSS, NCC, sports, and gym facilities.
