National Institute of Electronics & Information Technology (NIELIT), Imphal

NIELIT Imphal is one of the centers under the National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT), an autonomous scientific society functioning under the administrative control of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India. The center traces its origins to the Centre for Electronic Design and Technology (CEDT) network, which was established following the 1974 initiative by the Department of Electronics and the University Grants Commission to bridge the gap between academia and industry in electronics design. In December 2002, the CEDT center in Imphal, along with similar centers in Aurangabad, Calicut, Gorakhpur, Srinagar/Jammu, and Tezpur/Guwahati, and the Regional Computer Centres in Chandigarh and Kolkata, was merged into the DOEACC Society. On 10 October 2011, the DOEACC Society was renamed the National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT), reflecting its expanded role in human resource development, training, and education in electronics and information and communication technology. Today, NIELIT Imphal operates as part of a network of over 56 centers across India, administratively grouped into five regional zones, offering formal and non-formal IT and electronics courses, including the well-known O, A, B, and C level courses.
