B.P. Koirala Institute of Health Sciences (BPKIHS), popularly known as Ghopa Camp, is an autonomous health sciences university situated in the sub-metropolitan city of Dharan, Sunsari District, Nepal. Established on January 18, 1993, as a Nepal-India cooperative venture, it was named after former Nepalese Prime Minister Bishweshwar Prasad Koirala and became an autonomous Health Sciences University on October 28, 1998. The Institute comprises four colleges: the Faculty of Medicine, the College of Dental Surgery, the College of Nursing, and the School of Public Health and Community Medicine. It operates a 913-bed Teaching Hospital, originally the 150-bed Eastern Regional Hospital, which was expanded with coronary care, intensive care, MRI, CT-scan, and other facilities. The MBBS program began in 1994, and postgraduate programs started in 1999. BPKIHS offers Bachelor's, Master's, and Doctoral degrees, including MD, MS, MDS, MPH, and superspeciality DM/MCh programs. The College of Dental Surgery admits 60 students annually across nine departments. The hospital provides a wide range of in-patient, emergency, outpatient, radiology, laboratory, and public health services. Notable affiliates include Ramesh Bijlani, Tirath Das Dogra, and Ojashwi Sherchan.
