Indira Gandhi Institute of Technology (IGIT), Sarang

Indira Gandhi Institute of Technology (IGIT), Sarang was founded in 1982 as Odisha College of Engineering (OCE), managed directly by the Government of Odisha. Its origins trace back to 1981, when it operated as Modern Polytechnic (MPT), offering diploma courses in Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, and Mining Survey Engineering. In 1987, OCE and MPT merged and were renamed IGIT, Sarang, with management transferred to an Autonomous Society. In 2014, the Odisha government decided to elevate IGIT to a unitary university, and in 2017 the University Grants Commission granted it autonomous status. The institute is the first government engineering college in Odisha to receive NBA accreditation. Spread over 179 acres, the residential campus includes hostels, staff quarters, a stadium, a central library with 27,000 volumes, a computer centre, and other amenities. IGIT offers undergraduate, postgraduate, diploma, and PhD programs in engineering, architecture, and computer applications, with B.Tech degrees affiliated to Biju Patnaik University of Technology, Rourkela. It also hosts annual fests like Horizon and Technovation, along with various student organisations.
