DES Institute of Management Development and Research

The Institute of Management Development and Research (IMDR), located in Pune, India, is the oldest management institution in the city and functions as a branch of the Deccan Education Society. It was founded in 1974 by Dr R. T. Doshi and Shri Sumatilal Shah, with guidance from Wrangler G. S. Mahajani, former Principal of Fergusson College and Vice Chancellor of Pune University. Initially affiliated with the University of Pune, IMDR became autonomous in 1977. The institute shares its campus with Fergusson College and other Deccan Education Society institutions in Pune's Deccan Gymkhana area. IMDR currently offers a Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM), a two-year, four-semester program approved by AICTE and DTE with an intake of 240 students, featuring a six-month internship during the second semester. Specializations include Marketing, Finance, Human Resource Management, and Supply Chain & Operations as majors, with several minor options. Admission requires CAT scores, though other tests like MAT, CMAT, XAT, ATMA, GMAT, and MH-CET are also accepted. The institute maintains a library, computer center, and auditorium, and is a member of several professional associations including AMDISA and CII.
