The Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) is a deemed-to-be-university located in New Delhi, established on 17 August 1965 under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. It is regarded as the best media education institute in India and operates five regional campuses at Aizawl, Amravati, Dhenkanal, Jammu, and Kottayam, in addition to its Delhi headquarters. IIMC offers PG Diploma courses in journalism (in multiple languages), radio and television, advertising and public relations, digital media, and corporate communication, along with Master of Arts programs in media business studies, strategic communications, and new media communications, as well as a PhD program in mass communication and journalism. The institute was founded with Gopalaswami Parthasarathi credited as its founder, with contributions from H. Y. Sharada Prasad and a blueprint prepared by Wilbur Schramm. IIMC also trains officers of the Indian Information Service and conducts research through its Communication Research Department. It publishes journals such as Communicator and Sanchar Madhyam, along with other magazines and newsletters. Since 2018, it has been ranked as the top mass communication college in India by The Week, Outlook, and India Today.
