St. Mother Theresa Engineering College

St. Mother Theresa Engineering College (SMTEC) is located at Vagaikulam in Tuticorin, Tamil Nadu, India. It is a self-financing engineering college operated by the SCAD (Social Change And Development) group of institutions. The college is approved by AICTE and affiliated with Anna University, Chennai. It was established by Dr. S. Cletus Babu in 2009 with the aim of providing technical education to rural people of Tuticorin district, and it hosts a program to help provide direct education to rural farmers. SMTEC began with 157 students and 47 staff members, offering five Engineering Degree courses. The college is named after Mother Teresa. It ranks first among its sister institutions, Francis Xavier Engineering College and SCAD Engineering College, and has received a "Four-star" award from the Ministry of Education. Its teachers have received training from the All India Council for Technical Education. There is a notable number of Malayali students in every department pursuing degrees at SMTEC. The undergraduate programmes offered include B.E. in Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Civil Engineering. SCAD, the parent group, was founded in 1985 by Dr. S. Cletus Babu.
