SAI UNIVERSITY

Sai University is a private university situated on SH-49A near Paiyanur, in Thirupporur block, Kancheepuram district, Tamil Nadu, India. It was established in 2018 and became one of the first private universities to be legislated by the Tamil Nadu government in over 90 years, following Annamalai University. The university was the brainchild of founder-chancellor K.V. Ramani, an Indian entrepreneur who donated more than 85% of his wealth to the Sri Sai Trust, formally known as the Sai Education, Medical, Research and Charitable Trust, which promoted the university. The trust committed ₹320 crore (US$33 million) toward building the university's infrastructure. Ramani approached the state government in January 2018, leading to the Sai University Act, 2018, which was passed by the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly in July 2018 alongside the bill for Shiv Nadar University. Jamshed Bharucha was appointed founding vice chancellor in July 2020, and the foundation stone was laid by chief minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami in August 2020. Admissions for the 2021–22 academic year opened in January 2021 for the schools of arts and sciences, computing and data science, and law. The university began operations in August 2021, and its academic buildings were inaugurated by chief minister M. K. Stalin in May 2022.
