ALL INDIA INSTITUTE OF MEDICAL SCIENCE DEOGHAR
AIIMS Deoghar is a medical university and hospital in Deoghar, Jharkhand, India, established as part of the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY) to correct regional imbalances in tertiary healthcare. Proposed in 2016 and officially announced in the 2017-18 budget by Arun Jaitley, the site in Deoghar was finalized in December 2017, with 236.92 acres of land handed over in April 2018. The union cabinet approved the institute in May 2018 with a budget of ₹1,103 crore, and the foundation stone was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It became operational in September 2019 with 50 MBBS students, one of six AIIMS institutions to open that year. Saurabh Varshney was appointed director in March 2020, and N.K. Arora became president in May 2020. OPD services launched in August 2021, and the IPD along with academic and administrative blocks was inaugurated by Narendra Modi in June/July 2022. The institute runs MBBS, BSc Nursing, and MD/MS courses, and was permitted to run postgraduate courses in November 2022. The campus, expected to be fully functional by the end of 2023, will eventually offer 750 beds.
