Sardar Patel University
Sardar Patel University (SPU) is a public state university situated in Vallabh Vidyanagar, a city in Anand district, Gujarat, India. It is named after the politician Vallabhbhai Patel. The university was established in October 1955 through an Act of the Legislative Assembly of the then-Bombay Province. It received UGC recognition under section 2(f) of the UGC Act in October 1968. Originally, the institution held the status of a rural university. At its founding in 1955, when it was known as Sardar Vallabhbhai Vidyapeeth, its jurisdiction was limited to a 5-mile radius around Vallabh Vidyanagar. Later, under an amendment (Guj. 26 of 2015), the university's jurisdiction was expanded to cover two districts. The university is listed among institutions in India recognized by the University Grants Commission (India) and is included in lists of universities and colleges in India.
