Government College of Engineering, Keonjhar

The Orissa (Odisha) School of Engineering (OSME), Keonjhar, began in 1956 under the Department of Industries, Government of Odisha, offering diploma education in mining engineering, and was the only college in Eastern India offering this program at the time. Between 1986 and 1988, mechanical, electrical, and drilling engineering were added. Metallurgical engineering was introduced in 1992 with World Bank assistance, and in 1995 a Degree Stream of Engineering was launched, renamed Orissa School of Mining Engineering (Degree Stream), Keonjhar. Civil engineering was added in 2010 with help from SCTE&VT. In 2012, the degree program was separated and renamed Government College of Engineering, Keonjhar. The campus spans 44 acres in Keonjhar town, near NH 215 and NH 6, with the nearest railway station at Keonjhargarh and nearest airport in Bhubaneswar. Courses offered include Civil, Drilling, Electrical, Mechanical, Metallurgical, and Mining Engineering. Admission is through the Diploma Entrance Test (DET) conducted by SCTE&VT, Odisha, with 20% lateral entry provision. The institution provides vocational training and campus placement opportunities with companies like TATA STEEL, JSL, JSW, JSPL, L&T, IMFA, and ESSEL MINING.
