NAGALAND INSTITUTE OF MEDICAL SCIENCES AND RESEARCH KOHIMA

Nagaland Institute of Medical Science and Research (NIMSR), popularly known as Kohima Medical College, is a medical college and hospital situated in Kohima, in the Indian state of Nagaland. It holds the distinction of being the first medical college established in Nagaland. On 25 April 2023, the National Medical Commission issued a Letter of Permission (LoP) allowing the institute to admit 100 students into its MBBS program, operating under the affiliation of Nagaland University, Kohima, for the academic year 2023–2024. The project traces back to February 2014, when the Central government approved the creation of the medical college, agreeing to fund 90% of the cost while the state government covered the remaining 10%. The Central government sanctioned 189 crore rupees for construction, and the foundation stone was laid by Nagaland's Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio, in 2014. Although the sanctioned funds were released in 2015, construction was delayed due to land disputes, which were finally resolved in 2018 when the required land was handed over to the government. The institute eventually began classes at full capacity with 100 students in September 2023.
