BIRBHUM NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF HIGHER EDUCATION

Birbhum Institute of Engineering and Technology, also known as BIET, is a West Bengal government-aided engineering college in West Bengal, India. It was established in 1999 by an NGO named ICARE, under the guidance of educationist Padmashri Late Ramaranjan Mukherji, then Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, and Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee. The college is affiliated with Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology, and its programmes are approved by the All India Council for Technical Education and the National Board of Accreditation for the Mechanical Engineering department. It receives grants from the World Bank under the Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme (TEQIP-II), the Government of West Bengal, the WBMPLAD scheme, Birbhum Zilla Parishad, and WBSEDCL. The campus is located at Suri, Birbhum. The institute offers six undergraduate courses, including B.Tech programmes in Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Civil Engineering, and a discontinued Information Technology programme. It also offers two postgraduate M.Tech courses: Manufacturing Technology and Heat Power Engineering, each with an approved intake of 18 students.
