Gurukul Kangri Vishwavidyalaya, Haridwar

Gurukula Kangri is a government-funded deemed university under Section 3 of the UGC Act 1956, located near the Ganges in Haridwar, Uttarakhand, about 200 km from New Delhi. It was founded on 4 March 1902 by Arya Samaj sannyasi Swami Shraddhanand, a follower of Dayananda Saraswati, to provide an indigenous alternative to Macaulay's education policy by teaching Vedic literature, Indian philosophy, Indian culture, and modern sciences. The institution originally began in Kangri Village, Bijnor district, before shifting to its present campus after a flood in 1924. It later expanded to include the Kanya Gurukula Campus in Dehradun (1922) and Kanya Gurukula Campus in Haridwar (1993) for women's education. Today it comprises 25 academic departments across faculties including Oriental Studies, Arts & Humanities, Sciences, Life Sciences, Management, Engineering & Technology, Ayurveda & Medical Sciences, Yoga and Physical Education, and Education. It has separate campuses for men and women, and has signed roughly 34 memorandums of understanding with industries, universities, NGOs, and institutions. The university received Deemed to be University status in 1962 and was awarded an A+ grade by NAAC in 2015, along with a four-star status.
