ALL INDIA INSTITUTE OF MEDICAL SCIENCES, PATNA

AIIMS Patna, formerly known as Jaya Prakash Narayan All India Institute of Medical Sciences, is a medical college and hospital located in Phulwari Sharif, Patna, Bihar. It is one of the Institutes of National Importance in India and functions autonomously under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. Its foundation stone was laid by Bhairon Singh Shekhawat in January 2004, but construction was delayed for years due to political changes and rising costs. The institute began operating on 16 July 2012 following directives from the Patna High Court, and admitted its first batch of 50 MBBS students on 25 September 2012. It became fully functional by 2018, with new departments, a blood bank, an emergency and trauma centre, and additional hospital beds inaugurated that year. The campus spans 134 acres and includes a hospital with over 1,300 beds, multiple operation theatres, and various super-speciality departments established under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana. AIIMS Patna is ranked 26th among medical colleges in India by NIRF in 2024. It also provides hostel accommodation for undergraduate and postgraduate students.
