KERALA MEDIA ACADEMY

Kerala Media Academy, formerly known as Kerala Press Academy, is an academy of journalists in Kerala, established on 19 March 1979 as a joint venture of the Government of Kerala, Kerala Union of Working Journalists, and Indian Newspaper Society. Its head office is located at Kakkanad, Kochi, Kerala, inaugurated in May 1985. The academy's primary aim is to foster and coordinate activities in the sphere of journalism. It has set up a full-fledged institute, published books and monographs, organized seminars and workshops, and instituted endowments and awards to promote excellence in journalism. In 1986, it began offering a one-year Post Graduate Diploma in Journalism programme, followed in 1993 by a Post Graduate Diploma in Public Relations & Advertising programme. Over the years, it instituted several awards, including the V. Karunakaran Nambiar Award (1984), the Dr. Mookanur Narayanan Award and Chowara Parameswaran Award (1992), and the Moffusil Reporter's Award (1996). The academy is administered by a General Council and an Executive Council comprising working journalists, media owners, and government representatives. A new headquarters building at its Kakkanad campus is planned. Notable alumni include judges, journalists, film directors, actors, and media personalities.
